Practices will be held (cold, rain, wind, etc) unless you are otherwise notified.
Please be sure you are signed up to receive text messages and check messages and emails often. See "Communication" for more details.
Have your swimmer(s) arrive ready to swim! They should have their swimsuit on, goggles, towel and any necessary practice gear. For 2021 there will be entrance and exit guidelines as well as instructions on where to put personal items.
Always have swimmer(s) come prepared with sneakers and sweats. If swimmers cannot get in the pool due to the weather conditions they will do "dry-land" exercises. Dry-land exercises help build muscle, core strength, learn the correct biomechanics and improve their swimming skills.
When Do We Cancel Practice?
TEMP: Generally, as long as the temperature is above 50 degrees we will have practice.
RAIN: As long as there is no lightning we will have practice.
LIGHTNING: The pool is cleared when lightning is 8 miles away or closer. The deck is cleared when lightning is 3 miles away. Swimming can resume once lightning has moved more than 8 miles away for a consecutive 15 minutes. Generally speaking, if it looks like lightning is going to be a problem, that's when we cancel practice.
Download the "WeatherBug" app to your mobile to keep an eye on the lightning status.

What to Expect for 2021
This is our current plan under "Level Clear" but is subject to change. For now, please be prepared for this format.
1) No Masks: We will not be requiring masks in the pool area for practices. You are, of course, welcome to wear one if you prefer.
2) Parent Seating: The pool furniture will be out so if parents would like to sit on them, they can. We will not be disinfecting between practices but you can bring your own wipes or towels if you'd like. And you are always welcome to bring your own chairs. Please be mindful of social distancing.
Practice Equipment for 2021
We originally asked that everyone have their own equipment or we would be willing to loan out what we have. We have since gone back to the "normal" method of providing kickboards and pull buoys at each practice. (Not loaning them out.) If you are not comfortable with your swimmer using communal property, please have them bring their own. If you have any questions or problems, please contact Toni Samudio at [email protected].
KICKBOARDS: ALL swimmers will need a kickboard for practices. We have kickboards for practice but if you are not comfortable with your swimmer using a communal kickboard please have them bring their own. Swim N’ Things carries a number of kickboards and have added some options to our Team Page.
PULL BUOYS: (leg buoys) Swimmers aged 11-18 will need pull buoys. We have pull buoys for practice but if you are not comfortable with your swimmer using communal pull buoys, please have them bring their own. Swim N’ Things carries a number of options and have added a few to our Team Page.
MESH BAGS: (optional) Mesh bags are a handy way to keep your swim gear together. This is completely optional but I am listing it as something to consider. Again, Swim N’ Things has some options but also feel free to look around.
If you purchase any of these items online through Swim N’ Things, use code TEAM21 at checkout to get 15% off regular priced items. If you purchase in the store, tell them you are with Dam West.
